You’re invited: Annual Open House and Art Sale
Please come to my annual Arts and Crafts Sale and Open House on Sat., November 14th from 12 to 5 pm. You are welcome to tour my home and also to shop for jewelry, paintings, sculpture pieces, greeting cards and other works created by 9 artisans who set up tables throughout my home. Recipe: Cold Cantaloupe Soup
Ingredients: 1 cup fat free fruit yogurt
Diced mint leaves
1 cup frozen berries
1 cantaloupe
Directions: Chill fruit overnight. Cut cantaloupe into chunks and puree in a blender or Cuisinart. Sweeten with Splenda if necessary. Divide into 4 bowels: plop a dollop of yogurt on top and then sprinkle with 1/4 cup berries and mint.
- Review last year’s calendar and make a list of accomplishments. No matter how small or large, every achievement goes on the list. It’s surprising how long the list can be!
- Jot down “disappointments” for the past year and what you learned from them. Usually this list is short, and by the time you analyze what you gained from the experiences, they are no longer disappointments.
- Make a list of your desired outcomes for the coming year, by category: Health/Fitness, Social/Relationship, Career/Work, Spiritual, Emotional/Personal Growth, and Financial. Keep the list in your daytimer and review it once a week to keep on track.
The Feng Shui of Dieting
I was asked by someone whose friend was trying to lose weight if the feng shui of her kitchen could be having a negative influence on her efforts. She wanted to know what she could do in her kitchen to support her weight loss. I thought I’d share my suggestions with you:
- Your dieter friend should love the space where she eats. It needs to be clutter-free, clean, safe (no knives on view, no electrical cords or furniture to bump into), comfortable and beautiful. There should also not be too many electrical appliances on at once, as too much electro-magnetic energy and moving energy (fans, TV, noise---sound waves) are overly stimulating and can be anxiety producing. I suggest she pick one spot where she always sits to eat (not here one day and there the next). She should completely declutter and organize her kitchen or dining room (or wherever her meal happens). Removing refrigerator magnets and the stuff on top of the refrigerator is especially important.
- The chair she sits in needs to be very comfortable and supportive and she should face a beautiful or reassuring view. If she doesn't have a view, she can create an "altar of beauty" on top of a buffet or countertop. The "altar" could have a beautiful piece of art hanging on the wall, a vase of fresh flowers near it, photos of loved ones underneath, a few mementoes of happy times, like a rock found on the beach or a snow globe from a fun trip. It is OK to listen to soft, relaxing music while eating, but no reading or TV watching---this interferes with the food's energy being absorbed!
- There should also be no work-related things or telephone on view while eating (our brain gets the message "I must work right now" or "I must call so and so right now” when it sees those things). The act of eating can be treated like a ritual---setting aside uninterrupted time, slowing down, enjoying the food and the moment, and surrounding oneself with beautiful, meaningful objects.
- To remove bad energy or negative associations from the past, she might remove photos or possessions of people who stress her or she doesn't like. If she had bad experiences (especially if she stayed in the house after a divorce, or if one of her children died or moved out on bad terms) in the house simply rearranging the furniture, decluttering, and adding things which are beautiful and make her happy when she looks at them, can really change the energy for the good. And, when decluttering, the excess or negatively charged items need to be disposed of completely, not just put somewhere else on the property---they should be donated, given away or thrown away.
